Samsung has expanded AirDrop-like file sharing support on its Galaxy S26 smartphones from South Korea to the United States and other international markets, according to 9to5Google and TheStreet. This update allows Galaxy S26 users to transfer files seamlessly with iPhones, iPads, and Macs using Samsung’s Quick Share feature, eliminating the need for third-party apps.
The rollout began on March 23 in South Korea, with Samsung planning to extend the feature to North America, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, and Latin America, as reported by Engadget and Daring Fireball. The technology behind this cross-platform sharing is believed to be a reverse-engineered implementation similar to Google’s recent AirDrop support for Pixel phones.
This native AirDrop support is part of Samsung’s effort to improve interoperability between Android and Apple devices, which has traditionally been limited. As The Verge and Mashable note, this feature reduces friction in sharing photos and files directly between Galaxy S26 phones and Apple devices, enhancing user convenience across ecosystems.
While Samsung’s update is live in the US and other regions, 9to5Google had initially noted a staggered rollout, with some areas receiving the update later than others. Apple has not publicly commented on this development.
Moving forward, Samsung’s expansion of AirDrop support on the Galaxy S26 series may put pressure on other Android manufacturers to adopt similar interoperability features. The pace of the rollout and user adoption will be key indicators of whether this cross-platform sharing gains widespread traction.
