Our Mission

NewsRank is an AI-powered news intelligence platform that helps readers cut through information overload. We monitor over 270 vetted professional news sources worldwide using a multi-stage AI pipeline that detects breaking stories, clusters related coverage, tracks developing narratives over time, and surfaces what actually matters — ranked by editorial signals like source diversity and reporting quality, not clicks, engagement, or advertising revenue.

How We Curate Content

Source Selection

We monitor RSS feeds from 270+ professional news outlets across 30+ countries, spanning categories including politics, business, technology, science, health, climate, culture, and sports. Sources are selected based on:

  • Established journalistic reputation and editorial standards
  • Original reporting capability (not content farms or rewrites)
  • Geographic and political diversity to avoid bias concentration
  • Consistent publication of timely, factual news content

We regularly review our source list and remove outlets that consistently produce low-quality, misleading, or non-journalistic content. Our full source list is publicly available at newsrank.ai/sources.

Story Clustering

When multiple sources report on the same event, our algorithms automatically group related articles into "stories" using semantic similarity and named entity recognition. This gives readers a multi-source view of each event rather than isolated articles from a single outlet.

Ranking Algorithm

Our stories are ranked by an importance score that weighs multiple editorial signals:

  • Source diversity — Stories covered by many independent outlets rank higher
  • Source quality — Coverage from high-reputation outlets carries more weight
  • Velocity — Breaking stories with rapid coverage growth surface faster
  • Freshness — Recent developments are prioritized over stale stories
  • Entity significance — Stories involving major public figures or institutions rank higher

Critically, our ranking does not factor in user engagement metrics (clicks, shares, time on page), advertising relationships, or political alignment. Stories rank based on journalistic signals, not virality.

AI-Generated Summaries

NewsRank uses large language models to generate headline summaries, story overviews, and editorial digests. These AI-generated texts are clearly distinguished from original source material and are designed to help readers quickly understand the core facts of a story before reading full coverage from original sources.

Our AI summaries are:

  • Generated from the combined coverage of multiple source articles (not a single source)
  • Designed to be factual and neutral in tone
  • Always accompanied by links to the original source articles
  • Not intended to replace original journalism — they serve as a bridge to it

What We Are Not

NewsRank is not a news publisher. We do not employ journalists, conduct original investigations, or produce original reporting. We are a news intelligence platform that uses AI to help readers discover, understand, and track coverage from professional news organizations.

We do not edit, alter, or selectively quote from source articles. Our clustering and ranking algorithms operate programmatically based on the editorial signals described above.

Corrections and Feedback

If you believe a story has been incorrectly clustered, an AI summary contains inaccuracies, or a source should be reviewed, please contact us at editorial@newsrank.ai. We review all feedback and make corrections promptly.

Transparency

We believe in transparency about how news reaches you. Our source list, ranking methodology, and editorial standards are publicly documented. We do not accept payment for story placement or ranking, and we do not have advertising relationships that influence content curation.
