Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro withdrew from the Vuelta al País Vasco 2026 after suffering a thigh muscle tear in a crash during the third stage, according to UAE Team Emirates. The incident occurred approximately 81 kilometers from the finish line in Basauri, involving six riders. Del Toro was unable to continue the race due to the injury and multiple abrasions.
The UAE Team Emirates medical director, Adrian Rotunno, confirmed the muscular tear in Del Toro's right thigh and noted that further examinations are planned to determine the full extent of the injury. Spanish media reports stated that Del Toro was visibly injured on his right side and was taken to a hospital following the fall.
Before the crash, Del Toro had been performing strongly; he finished 11th in the second stage and had risen to eighth in the overall general classification. His withdrawal impacts both his personal standings and the team’s strategy for the demanding Basque Country race.
The cyclist expressed gratitude for the support received and remains optimistic about his recovery while under medical observation.
