An international alert has been issued for Jesús Maximiano Verduzco Soto, a homeopathic doctor wanted in connection with six deaths linked to vitamin drip treatments in Hermosillo, Sonora, according to Lopez Doriga Digital. Authorities have launched an intense search after evidence emerged that contaminated intravenous vitamin solutions administered at his clinic caused the fatalities. Despite raids and an arrest warrant, Verduzco Soto remains at large.
Investigations reveal that the Medicina Regenerativa Celular clinic operated by Verduzco Soto had unsanitary conditions, including the presence of mosquitoes, contaminated syringes, and poor hygiene practices, as detailed by Lopez Doriga Digital. Patient accounts confirmed unsafe handling and administration of the infusions, which were marketed as remedies for fatigue and hangovers.
Health authorities in Sonora reported a total of nine cases linked to vitamin-infused serum, with six deaths and others hospitalized or discharged, according to El Financiero. The Mexican Health Secretariat and the COFEPRIS regulatory agency have become involved, conducting medical supply analyses and tissue studies to determine the cause of these adverse outcomes. One victim, Catalina Figueroa, was among those who died after receiving treatment intended to boost well-being.
The medical community has issued warnings about the risks of unregulated intravenous vitamin therapies. Dr. Macías, interviewed by El Financiero, highlighted the potential for “fatal consequences” from inappropriate administration without proper medical oversight. The case has sparked concerns over the broader issue of unlicensed medical practices in the region.
Authorities continue to seek Jesús Maximiano Verduzco Soto and are expanding their inquiry into other patients treated at the clinic. The investigation's outcome will likely influence regulatory measures regarding homeopathic and alternative medicine clinics operating in Sonora and across Mexico.
