GIMPA Promotes Coaching to Develop Ghanaian Leaders; Experts Advocate for Systematic Adoption

GIMPA’s recent seminars and prominent endorsements reinforce coaching as a strategic leadership tool in Ghana. The emphasis on institutionalizing coaching marks a shift toward embedding it as a core component in leadership cultivation. Future initiatives are likely to focus on formalizing coaching practices across educational and organizational systems.

GIMPA Business School held the Pre-ICW 2026 Campus Coaching Seminar on April 14 at its Green Hills Campus in Accra, focusing on coaching's vital role in developing resilient and forward-thinking leaders in Ghana, according to MyJoyOnline. The event attracted students, faculty, and industry leaders and stressed the need to embed coaching into educational and organizational frameworks to support leadership growth in an era marked by rapid technological change.

Prof. Samuel Bonsu, GIMPA Rector, described coaching as a strategic enabler that transforms leadership potential into tangible impact, urging students and alumni to adopt a lifelong coaching mindset to sustain Ghana’s leadership legacy. His remarks were reinforced by Prof. Bernard Obeng Acquah, Dean of GIMPA Business School, who called for coaching to be fully integrated into leadership curricula rather than treated as optional, linking coaching to the institution’s success in cultivating adaptive leaders.

Scofray Nana Yaw Yeboah, President of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) Ghana Chapter, highlighted coaching as a distinct and essential developmental tool differing from therapy and mentoring, noting that the global coaching industry is valued at $5.38 billion. He called for increased investment and awareness in coaching in Ghana to boost human capital and leadership capacity.

Additional input from HR experts at the seminar emphasized coaching’s effectiveness in unlocking individual potential and improving workplace performance, underscoring its growing significance in Ghana’s professional landscape. The seminar coincided with GIMPA’s Student Week and is part of preparations for the wider International Coaching Week 2026 events.

Looking ahead, the push by GIMPA and coaching advocates signals a likely increase in formal coaching programs across Ghanaian higher education and corporate sectors. Monitoring how coaching integration affects leadership outcomes and organizational resilience will be key as Ghana prepares future leaders to navigate complex economic and social challenges.
