Kenyan authorities have arrested three suspects connected to the violent April 8 attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at Java House in Kisumu, according to Capital FM Kenya. The suspects—Carlos Owiti, Eric Otieno, and Vincent Odhiambo—are currently in police custody awaiting court arraignment, and investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are pursuing additional leads.
Despite these arrests, Siaya Governor James Orengo has criticized the police for delayed action and alleged interference that has stalled the investigation, as reported by Capital FM. Orengo has urged Kenya's Parliament to hold a formal inquiry, citing the availability of CCTV footage and other evidence that had not initially led to arrests.
Members of Parliament have also demanded a comprehensive review of security protocols following the attack, emphasizing concerns about the safety of political leaders. Osotsi was airlifted to Nairobi for urgent medical treatment after sustaining serious injuries, highlighting the severity of the assault, according to the same Capital FM sources.
Political leaders nationwide condemned the attack as a threat to democratic processes and pressed for swift justice to prevent further intimidation of elected officials. However, an official government statement on the incident and subsequent security measures has not yet been released.
Going forward, Kenya’s Parliament is expected to consider Governor Orengo’s calls for accountability, and the security agencies will likely face increased scrutiny over their handling of the case and protection of public officials. Monitoring the forthcoming court proceedings and government response will be critical to assessing progress on justice and political stability.
