Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Launches Youth Support and Peace Initiatives

Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado launched the 'Tarjeta Joven' program to support youth development, providing discounts in education, health, transportation, and entertainment to over 10,000 young people in partnership with 482 local businesses, according to El Financiero. The initiative aims to boost economic opportunities and create a comprehensive support network for youth in the state.

Alongside this, Salgado established the State and Municipal Councils of Peace and Civic Justice with Rocío Bárcena Molina from the Secretary of Governance. These councils are designed to foster citizen participation in resolving conflicts, recovering public spaces, and reinforcing legality, as part of a broader national security strategy to enhance community well-being, El Financiero reports.

Salgado also highlighted progress in women’s rights reforms and policies to guarantee the safety of women and girls in Guerrero, marking advances in legal protections and social programs aimed at reducing gender-based violence and promoting equality, as noted by El Financiero. This complements her administration's focus on inclusive security measures.

In a related security effort, the governor inaugurated new offices for specialized prosecutorates in Acapulco targeting kidnapping, extortion, forced disappearances, and missing persons cases. These measures have contributed to a 72% reduction in intentional homicides since October 2024, reflecting coordinated efforts among state agencies, El Financiero added.

Going forward, Guerrero’s administration will monitor the impact of these initiatives on youth development, public safety, and social justice while expanding support programs, including potential scaling of the Bienpesca financial aid for nearly 15,000 fishers and further disability assistance efforts. The effectiveness of the peace councils and women’s rights reforms will also be key indicators of sustainable progress in the region.
